Each 8th-grade student is placed in a small group based on their gender and which middle school they attend. Each small group is facilitated by an adult Core Team member and sometimes, a high school Teen Leader as well. Small groups provide a setting where students break open and discuss the topic that was covered in the large group session and apply it to their everyday lives.
At Christ the Redeemer, we begin introducing additional components for faith formation in 8th grade, including a retreat and service projects. These are to onboard students into the Confirmation process before they register in 9th grade for Confirmation I (Encounter). We will go over these details at the Parent Meeting in October (see below for date).
On the Registration page, you will see "7th-8th Grade RISE" listed as an option you can select when filling out the form. Once you select that and complete registration, you will receive updates through our RISE Flocknote email group.
In 8th Grade, the youth have the chance to go on their first retreat with Christ the Redeemer Youth Ministry. It is a great opportunity for the youth to get more acquainted with their small groups in addition to growing in the community of other youth their age.
The retreats for 2022-23 will be held on Feb. 4-5 and Feb. 25-26. As the retreats are a required component of 8th grade year, if they cannot attend in February they must make up the requirement by attending one of our make-up options in the summer. Please email Angela for more information.
Retreat Registration opens October 1, 2022
If your child attends in-person RISE and misses a night, whether excused or unexcused, they must complete the make-up assignment for that night. All make-up work will be completed on EdPuzzle. Please watch the video for instructions on how to complete make-up work.
Our Family Meeting is a required meeting for all parents and 8th graders in Rise. The meeting explains our Rise program as well as the requirements which will be new to 8th graders and their families. This year the meeting will be September 28th at 7pm (during Rise).
