Koinonia Groups are small groups of teens and adult leaders who are actively seeking more depth in community, formation, and missionary discipleship.
Koinonia Groups are designed for teens who find themselves seeking to go deeper in their faith. If you're wondering how to live as a Catholic in the world today, how to strengthen your prayer life, or what Jesus wants for your life, then Koinonia groups may be a great way to get started!
Koinonia Groups are made up of 4-8 members. These groups are intended to be a place to form deep and lasting bonds with close friends. They are created within a local community or neighborhood to help foster authentic relationships both within and seperate from scheduled group activities. Koinonia Groups provide a space to be intentionally formed and sent as a missionary disciple of Jesus Christ.
Koinonia groups are small groups of high school teens led by a pair of adult mentors. Koinonia groups are based in the community where its members live. This allows groups to foster a very literal sense of community with other faith filled teens and adult mentors in their neighborhood. Koinonia groups meet regularly in public locations to journey together and grow deeper in their faith.
The programming for each Koinonia Group varies depending on the needs of the teens within the group. The teens, Koinonia group leaders, and CtR staff work together to discern what will be the most beneficial for each individual Koinonia group. Groups may choose to do bible studies, book studies rooted in faith and prayer, apologetic formation, Vocational discernment, equipping teens t be authentic missionary disciples, and more!
Life Groups meet regularly in a wide variety of times and places. We maintain flexibility in meeting times and locations so that each group has the space to decide what works best for them. Groups may meet at coffee shops, restaurants, parks, the CtR campus or any other public place they choose. For everyone's safety Koinonia groups will not meet in homes.
This Summer we will be starting our first Koinonia Group in the Towne Lake-Bridgeland area. We hope to start more groups in the future. If this is something that you are interested in, please let us know!
If you are interested in joining a Koinonia Group, please submit an interet form below. This is NOT a registration, but allows us to place teens into a Koinonia group when and where available. Fill out the form and we will reach out to you!
Each Koinonia group is led by two trained adult leaders. Every group leader is an active, prayerful, Spirit-filled disciple of Jesus dedicated to the mission of Christ the Redeemer youth ministry and parish. They lead under the care, direction, and confidence of the CtR Youth Ministry Staff.
All group leaders are Safe Environment certified through the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston CMG Connect Safe Haven training. This process also includes a background check.
koinonia is a Greek word meaning "community, fellowship, or communion" and was used in the New Testament to refer to early Christian communities. These groups shared their lives (and belongings) with each other, supported one another in faith, and worshipped together.
Acts of the Apostles 2:42 "And they devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and the fellowship (koinonia), to the breaking of bread and the prayers."
