FoodFast 2015 Immerses Students in Catholic Social Teaching
March30,2015
FoodFast 2015 was a great event this year! The weekend of March 27-28, Youth Ministry had a lock-in and service event for students in grades 8-12, and adults, to be immersed in Catholic Social Teaching. Participants not only served our CtR parishioners and those in Cypress, but some even went downtown to help charity missionaries.
The events included:
Friday, March 27
Friday night consisted of looking at Pope Francis' Lenten message and praying for our brothers and sisters around the world. We set up prayer stations and the students spent time praying for persecuted Christians, the hungry and homeless, the poor souls in purgatory, and the unloved. It was a very powerful night.
Saturday, March 28
On Saturday, we had nine work sites this year with 75 students serving the community. We collected food in the neighborhoods of Wortham and Copperfield and were able to help parishioners in need. We sent one team downtown to help the missionaries of charity to put together food for the homeless and beautify a house they have for pregnant women. One group helped an elderly lady and filled a 30-yard dumpster full of branches they cut back as well as other things she needed to get rid of inside her home and garage. We also brought out an electrician who fixed some electrical issues and installed a new stove for her. The other work sites were yard work for people who were elderly and couldn't get to it on their own as well as helping Genesis Early Childhood Program with their playground by weeding, putting in mulch and staining the deck.
